The brief was to produce some close up casino based images. Most of these photos were created in the studio with the help of a good friend who had a casino set to hand.

Some images though were shot on location in an actual casino! We can confirm that being in a 24 hour casino at 7am in the morning is a VERY strange experience.

Overall, we feel we matched the brief for this job pretty well. Watch this space for these images to be popping up in the public eye pretty soon…

We’d like to think that we’ve improved our methods and technique for hair photography over the shoots we’ve done. Still, it’s not the easiest of shoots to get right. The balance between picking up the right textures and applying light in the hair itself while also making the model look good (but not causing distraction), can be trickier than you might think.

Caroline Matthews and Simon Eden for the Bad Barnett Barbers styled this shoot and we’re pretty happy with how the final images turned out. As they’re being entered into a competition, we can’t publish the chosen images just yet – but here’s one of our favourite tests from the day.

This time around we went for a blue graduated backdrop for a little more colour, sticking with the classic Fancy Fowl show look, to capture some of the birds personality with it.

East Media commissioned us to produce contemporary group portraits, a library of candid, ambient and reportage style images of the various Morrisons offices at work, and clean staff head-shot portraits.

Additionally, we were to provide striking scenic landscape and architectural images of the areas Morrisons calls “home”- Wimbledon, Redhill and Woking.

The first part of the brief – the people bit – is totally our game. For dedicated, constructed landscape and architectural photography we wanted to get the keenest eye we know on board: Jim at Click Click (check his website out for some examples of his stunning work).

The team at Morrisons were a pleasure to work with, and they very much took our shoot-relaxation techniques in their stride – from chatting about recent cinema releases to acting out in parlour games. Signed with Ninja Tune label Big Dada, DELS has been getting some big praise recently. Paul Lester of The Guardian has complimented his ability to “set himself apart from many homogeneous Hip Hop artists by sounding both languid and urgent” and his single Shapeshift’ was listed by Drowned In Sound as one of their top singles of 2010.

The image was shot on a pink backdrop at the Concorde 2 in Brighton. We cut the D and the S out of an old black backdrop and then glued them to the pink backdrop, we then glued some pink backdrop to some cardboard and cut the E and the L out of some old black backdrop and stuck them to this.

Although this looks like a fairly simple setup it actually took quite a lot to get the scaling of the letters on his chest to match up with the letters on the backdrop.

The light setup was pretty simple though. 1 snoot with a grid on the D one snoot with a grid on the S and a beauty dish with a grid covering the E the L and his face.

Remember to go check him out when he plays the Concorde 2 again this August! For now though here’s the brilliant Shapeshift video

The ladies were greeted with sparkling wine and fresh fruit before they changed into the glamourous costumes they had arranged for the shoot.

The ladies were primped, painted and beqoiffed by our hair and make up artists and were treated to a presentation from the fabulous and reknown burlesque performer,  Coco Deville.

Coco gave the girls a talk about the history of burlesque and gave posing tips throughout each of their shoots, offering support and confidence to each of the ladies.

When Carla and every Belle had had their moment in front of the camera, there was time for a light lunch and some more sparkling wine before the group shot.  It was a really lovely day and we hear that the girls all kept their hair, make up (and false eyelashes!) on for the rest of their Hen evening!
